Within the Faculty of Engineering Technology, the Department of Biomechanical Engineering is specialised in the application area of Biomedical Technology, integrating the tools of several mechanical engineering disciplines in the study of aspects of human functioning. The Department has strong research lines in biorobotics, human-machine interfacing and the mechanics of biological tissue. The Department of Design, Production & Management focuses on research, education and application of the broad industrial design process, ranging from the analysis of context and users to the realization of products and product service systems. The Department applies and advances conceptual and empirical methods of design research and contributes to knowledge on the design of business models, production, sustainability, human-product interaction, and co-creation. The Department is the main contributor to Industrial Design Engineering at the University of Twente. Both departments have access to excellent infrastructure, such as the DesignLab (www.utwente.nl/designlab/) or the VR-Lab (www.vrlab.ctw.utwente.nl).
