The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) is looking for a European Research & Innovation Policy Officer to represent the network in Brussels. As European Research & Innovation Policy Officer, you develop and maintain the relations of the network with key decision makers within European institutions and other network organisations relevant to ECIU interests. You inform ECIU member universities about on-going and new policy developments and invite them to provide input to the debate which you will collate and form into an ECIU Member consensus position. You will communicate these positions effectively to you European network and beyond to raise the profile of ECIU as an important contributor to the policy debate. Furthermore, you will identify funding opportunities to support ECIU network development and present these opportunities to the ECIU members. ECIU is a strong and active network of Europe's most entrepreneurial and innovative universities. The twelve partners have already been cooperating within ECIU since its foundation in 1997, a long time before 'innovation' became a key element in the European development agenda. There is cooperation in the field of education, in promoting entrepreneurship amongst students and staff and in exploring new ways of collaborating with business, industry and the public sector. ECIU has a wide offer of good practices and the shared profile makes ECIU a fitting vehicle to broadcast joint messages on policy developments in innovation. The consortium brings excellent and challenge-driven research to the table and offers a modern view to stakeholders in Brussels. The Policy Officer in Brussels will be supported by a Steering Committee EU Policy and a working on European affairs with representatives from all ECIU member institutions. In the past, the ECIU has played an active role in the European policy debates and has now the ambition to strengthen and intensify its presence in the upcoming debates

FUNCTION

  • ‍Represent ECIU in European policy debates.
  • ‍Prioritise and advise on European policies that relate to education, research and innovation and are relevant to the network.
  • ‍Communicate policy developments to the member universities of ECIU.
  • ‍Proactively draft formal and informal positions to EU consultations, taking into account ECIU member universities’ positions.
  • Organise relevant meetings and events for the member universities.Support ECIU delegations in their activities relating to European policies and their relationship with officials of the European institutions.Liaise with strategic partners and networks.
  • ‍Identify funding opportunities for ECIU network development activities, provide conceptual outlines for potential projects which could strengthen the ECIU collaboration.

YOUR PROFILE

  • ‍At least Master level education
  • ‍Broad knowledge of European policies relating to research, innovation and higher education
  • ‍A knowledge of R&I funding instruments of the European Commission and their evolution
  • ‍Ability to work for a member-based university network and manage consensus forming around positionsNetwork and relationship development skills
  • ‍Experience in monitoring, drafting, reviewing and negotiating policy statementsExcellent written, verbal and social media communication skills, including a proven ability to articulate complex policy issues in clearly written EnglishHigh level consultation and negotiation skillsExcellent planning, organisational, conceptual, research and analytical skillsAbility to work independently, exercise judgement and solve problems, demonstrate initiative and work productively as part of a team
  • ‍Computer literate and effective in the use of the internet, email and word processing, spreadsheets and simple web page editing.

OUR OFFER

The position will be a fixed-term contract with one of the ECIU member universities. We offer a competitive remuneration based on experience of the candidate, comparable with Coördinator external relations of the Dutch Labour Agreement Universities.
